FARMVAR
ATIC is the ICARs NATP scheme functioning from the year 1999. This centre sanctioned to ICAR institutes and State Agricultural Universities. In the country there are 44 ATIC centers functioning at present. Tamil Nadu Agricultural University is having this centre at the main campus, Coimbatore. It is functioning in the Directorate of Extension Education, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore.
Objectives
- To provide a ‘single window’ delivery system for agricultural information as well as products and technologies developed by the University to the farmers and other interested groups as a process of innovativeness in the Technology Dissemination at the University level.
- To strengthen the farm advisory services by adopting a multi disciplinary approach to problem solving.
- To facilitate direct access to the farmers to the institutional resources available in terms of technology, advice, technology products, etc., for reducing technology dissemination losses and to provide mechanism for feed back from the farmers to the university.
- ATIC will facilitate in dealing effectively with the complexity and diversity of information systems and channels. Such information will be useful for farmers, farmer-entrepreneur, change agencies and development agencies, non-government organizations and private sector organizations.
Functions
- Sale of seeds, books, publications, CDs, coconut tonic, bio – agents, processed products etc.
- Rendering services like plant clinic, farm advisory, soil and water testing, answering kisan calls, facilitating farmers group exposure visit.
- Disseminating information through exhibition, demonstrations, audio visual shows, farm literatures, personal contact, telephonic enquiries, postal correspondence etc.

Soil testing
Testing fee : Rs. 100/sample
Parameters analyzed : Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potash, pH, EC and soil texture are analyzed.
Water testing
Testing fee :Rs 50/Sample
(If the EC value is >1, then the elaborate tests were made, for that the testing fees is Rs 250/sample).
Medicinal Plants Facilitation Centre
Medicinal Plants Facilitation Centre is also functioning under ATIC, TNAU, Coimbatore – 3.
Objectives
- To provide service to growers on medicinal plants cultivation.
- To act as a house of information on the elite germplasm of medicinal plants, the species to be planted based on market demand and agro – climatic suitability, list of traders, manufacturers within the state and adjoining state, agro – technique and practices relating to collection, harvesting, storage, drying and value addition.
- To provide training on the formulation of projects on medicinal plants cultivation and development.
- To organize frequent buyer – seller meet for establishing linkages between cultivation and marketing in order to encourage market driven cultivation.
- To develop modules of training besides conduct of training programmes for farmers.
- To publish and disseminate information on agro – techniques, markets, prices, mandies, traders, industries etc. in local languages.
