Dry Root Rot: Macrophomina phaseolina
Symptom
  • It infects the plants at two stages. At seedling stage, it infection results in the death of plants with decaying of roots. At flowering stage, the affected plants exhibits, yellowing and drooping of leaves followed by death of plants.
  • The affected plant comes out very easily from soil. Decaying of root hairs and secondary roots with shredding of bark region at the colllar region will be observed.
  • Large number of black minute sclerotia will be seen on the shredded portion and black pycnidia also seen on the stem.
Management
  • Seed treatment with Trichoderma viride 4 g/kg or Pseudomonas fluorescens 10 g/kg
  • Basal application of zinc sulphate 25 kg/ha
  • Basal application of neem cake @ 150 kg/ha
  • Soil application P. fluorescens or T. viride – 2.5 kg / ha + 50 kg of well decomposed FYM or sand at 30 days after sowing.
  • Spot drenching of Carbendazim @ 1 gm/ lit
