The following practices are adopted to reduce the pest population in pulses

  • Black gram
  • Green gram
  • Bengal gram
  • Cowpea
  • Cowpea sown in 4th week of July and 2nd week of August has less pest and cowpea yellow mosaic virus incidence

  • Intercropping of black gram with red gram and cowpea with red gram delayed the appearance of green jassid, green bug and pigeon pea, green gram with sorghum influenced the galerucid beetle, jassid, white fly, semi looper, hairy caterpillar and pod borer incidence.

  • Black gram with sorghum and black gram with sesamum intercropping reduced jassid population

  • Use resistant cultivars for mung bean, ML 337, ML 423 and ML 428 and Cow pea V- 16, 18 and J 19.
