Market Extension

A new department in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, the Department of Market Extension, under the Directorate of Extension Education is functioning from 14.05.2008.


  • To promote commodity based Farmers’ Interest Groups.
  • To promote institutional linkages for the Commodity Interest Groups for efficient marketing.
  • Organizing workshops on market linkages and facilitating Buyer – Seller Meets.
  • To scout the market information and share it with all the Krishi Vigyan Kendras and line departments.
  • To impart master training to the extension personnel on market forces, intelligence and information systems.
  • To provide training on marketing management to the line department officials.

Institutional Linkages:

1. Development of effective linkages with State Agricultural Marketing Department, Agri – Business Directorate and similar institutions like Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) etc.,
2. Linkages with unorganized and organized markets of different sizes and commodities.
3. Buyer and Seller Linkages.
4. Agribusiness Firms / Industries
5. Wholesale / Retail Units in Principal cities

The motto of the Department of Market Extension is to make “Farmer as Trader”.
