Red Gingelly
It is being cultivated in Raghunathapuram village at Ramnad district. Gingelly is sown in month of December and harvested in March. The gingelly is red in colour and it has good oil content. The rain fed traditional gingelly yield is 320 kg/acre. It fetches good price in market (Rs.18 per kg.). The seed rate is 1.5 kg/acre and the seeds are collected from the previous year grains. The oil content is more than other varieties. The duration (90 days) is more than other varieties (70 days). It has more branches than other varieties. The seeds are collected from the harvested grains and it is kept upto one year without addition of any chemicals.
