Ramnad Gundu Chillies (Capsicum spp)
In Ramnad areas, the prevailing conditions are favored to grow chillies well. The traditional Ramnad gundu variety is most preferably cultivated because of its yield is higher than the other samba type. When the amount of rainfall increases, the yield of chillies is drastically reduced. It is cultivated only in less amount of rainfall. Farmers get more profit in “Ramnad Gundu” chillies. The cost of cultivation of Chillies is Rs.10,000 per acre and the profit is Rs.30,000 per acre. It is sown in the month of Aavani/Karthigai and harvested in the month of Chittrai/Vaikasi. Cotton is used as intercrop in chillies field. Some of the farmers using coriander as intercrop in chillies field. The yield of chillies is 1000kg per acre (50 bags: 1 bag = 20 kg).
