SunFlower

1. What is the suitable season for sunflower?
             All season are suitable for sunflower cultivation during the sunflower cultivation we will concentrate on monsoon overlapping at the time of flowering. It will reduce the pollen viability yield. Suitable season for sunflower is in rainy season June to mid July and 2nd fornight of August.  In rabi (winter season) – September to first fortnight of October in summer January to second fortnight of February.

2. Can we grow sunflower continuously in the same field?
        No high productivity of sunflower reduces the soil fertility if it is grown 3 or 4 times in same field it will reduce the soil productivity and later the land become unfertilie and not suitable for cultivation.

Banana

Which type of suckers should be selected for planting?What should be the age and weight of banana corms selected for planting . Mention the pest & diseases which spread through banana corms. What is the procedure for paring & pralinage (seed treatment) in banana?

  • Banana is commonly propagated through suckers or corms. Sword suckers with narrow leaves at the height of 3 to 5 feet weighing 1.5 to 2 kg are preferred.

  • Three month old suckers for Dwarf Cavendish and four month old suckerBana 12 &13s for other cultivars are best for short and long duration crops respectively.

  • Suckers should be collected from the disease free banana plantations.

  •  Selected suckers should be trimmed and pared of all roots and superficial tissues to make the sucker free from nematodes and rhizome weevils.

  • The pared corm should be dipped in clay slurry and later sprinkled with carbofuran granules @40 g per corm. Otherwise, carbofuran granules may be applied in soil around the corm @ 20 gm at the time of planting and 20 gm one month after planting. 

  • The pared corm should be dipped into a solution containing 0.5 per cent 0.1 per cent Carbendazim separately for each 15 minutes.

  • Planting should be done after shade drying the corms for 24 hours.

Tapioca

1. How to prepare nursery for tapioca?
2. How to manage mosaic disease in tapioca?

Answer:
Cassava mosaic virus is the major problem in Tapioca cultivation. It is transmitted through setts. To reduce the incidence of mosaic disease, nursery is a good agronomic management practice.

  • Plant the setts in the raised bed.

  • Transplant the settings after 15-20 days.

  • Discard the diseased seedlings in the nursery itself.

  • Use the healthy seedlings for transplanting.

Pulses

Seed treatment techniques for dry land pulses ?

 Seed treatment with prosopis  leaf extract 1 % ,first seeds are preconditioned for 1 hour.After that it is soaked in 4 lit / acre prosopis leaf extract for about 1 hr,then dried and used for sowing .It will be stored upto one month.

For foundation or certified seed production where it is registered ?

It is registered in ADA,seed certification office and fees Rs.100/= sowing report is sent with the details of which crop,variety,area,date of sowing,what type of seed production  etc.
