Projects

NABARD sanctioned ABG training on Empowerment of SHGs through technology transfer training and establishment of a small scale food processing and preservation unit in Coimbatore (2011- till date). Nearly 100 SHG members were trained under this programme on value added products from agriculture and horticulture commodities. Out of which 20 members prepare and sell the products in the nearby outlets like local shops, households, fairs and exhibitions etc.

INSIMP scheme: TNAU scheme entitled “Initiative for Nutrition Security through Intensive Millet Promotion” is functioning under RCT. Minor millets are processed by SHGs and sold in the existing outlet.

Producer Company: Producer Company namely, Kovai Organic Producer Company Limited was registered with 500 stakeholders.

The types of training conducted were grouped as,

Women entrepreneurs

  • Women entrepreneurship development is the key role of the trust. Free training in the field food based products is conducted for women SHG members and women living in low economic status

.Government sponsored training programme

  • NABARD - Activity Based Group training was conducted for SHG women in Processing and preservation of fruits and vegetables, Bakery and confectionary technology, Instant masala powder and ready- to-cook foods and Fast foods.

  • MSME - Ministry of Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises, Coimbatore branch recognized RCT as one partner to offer food based entrepreneurship. Nearly 294 entrepreneurs were trained in preserved food products. Mostly one week training was offered for each batch.

  • EDI, Chennai - Entrepreneurship Development Institute, Chennai sponsored training programme on millet based ethnic foods was conducted for 25 participants for a duration of 25 days.

  • NMFP - National Mission on Food Processing, Chennai supported programme on Setting up value added Food processing unit among Entrepreneurs was conducted for 30 entrepreneurs for a duration of 30 days.

  • Women Development Corporation - Chennai  sponsored  training  programme  on Food   processing   was   conducted   for   30 members  in  perianaickenpalayam  block  area for 45 days.
Faculty development

Staff from Vellalar College for women, Erode and RVS college from sulur attended faculty improvement programme to improve the practical teaching skill in preservation.
Student internship programme

Group of undergraduate students from Vellalar College for Women, Erode, Post graduate  students  from  PSG  college  of  Arts and Science, Coimbatore, Dr.NGP college of Arts   and   Science,   Coimbatore   and   RVS college,  Sulur  underwent  internship programme in value added product development. The duration of the learning varied form 7 days to 30 days.
