Improved Foot Valves

1.

Function

:

To reduce the head loss and there by increases the efficiency of foot valve for water lifting

2.

Principle

:

The efficiency of foot valve is increased by reducing the pressure loss and increasing the area of strainer and valve holes

3.

Cost

:

Cost of a foot valve is about Rs. 300/-

4. Salient features

  • The conventional foot valve has the ratio of strainer opening to the dome surface as 0.12 to 0.34 while the improved foot valve has the corresponding values varying from 1.0 to 0.19
  • The ratio of valve opening area to the suction pipe varies from 1.6 to 0.81 in the conventional foot valve, while it varies from 2.56 to 0.99 in improved foot valve.
  • The pressure loss in conventional foot valve is 1.25 to 1.5m, while it is only 0.3 to 0.5m in improved foot valve.
