Land Preparation


  • Ploughing has to be done during summer.

  • 1 or 2 days before ploughing flooding has to be done.

  • Surface of the field should be covered with water.

  • 2.5 cm depth of water should be maintained at the time of puddling.

Optimum age of seedlings for Transplanting

  • Short duration varieties - 18 - 22 days

  • Medium duration varieties - 25 - 30 days

  • Long duration varieties - 35 - 40 days

Pulling out the seedlings

  • Pull out the seedlings to be done at 4th leaf stage.

  • Transplanting after 5th and higher order leaf numbers (aged seedlings) will affect the performance of the crop.
