Forage Crops :: HARVESTING
STAGE OF HARVESTING

  • At the flowering stage when it has the maximum amount of nutrients.
  • For maize it is the early dent stage of maturity and for sorghum the late dough stage.
  • Silage materials containing less than 25 per cent dry matter (more than 75 per cent moisture) will form a very sour silage and lose significant amount of silage juices with nutrients

MOISTURE LEVEL

    Moisture content of 60-65 per cent with 30-35 per cent dry matter is very ideal.
