Sesame - Harvesting
Maturity symptoms
- 25% percent of bottom leaves shed, top leaves and stem turn yellow
- Capsules turn yellow upto the middle portion
- Assess seed colour of the variety in 10th capsule from bottom
Harvest
- Harvest before the bottom capsules turn brown
- Pull out / cut the plant stalk and stack in the threshing yard on circle shape with the stem portion pointing out and the top portion pointing inside
- To hasten the seed maturity, cover the entire stack arrangement with straw and leave it for curing (3-5 days)
- After 5th day shake the plants and mature seeds fall
- Clean the seeds and allow for 3 days for sun drying
- Collect and store the seeds in gunny bags
