Pre-release monitoring of GM trial by TNAU
The transgenic crop developers conduct field trials to demonstrate biosafety of transgenic crops in terms of environmental safety. These field trials are conducted in different parts of the country with the approval of RCGM and GEAC. The field trials are monitored by the Monitoring and Evaluation Committee (MEC) set up by the RCGM. Besides MEC, the crop is monitored at periodic intervals by a committee (constituted by RCGM) headed by the Director of Research (DR) of the Agricultural University representing the region.
