Integrated Nematode Management (INM)
Management:
Cultural methods
- Deep summer ploughing.
- Selection of nematode free corms / suckers.
- Sun drying of banana sucker for 2 weeks or Hot water treatment @ 55 Degree Celcius for 10 min.
- Crop rotation with non- host crops like rice or cereal crops.
- Use of Cover crop – Calapagonium.
- Use of resistant variety like Pisang lilin.
- Sow sunnhemp or marigold in and around the basin of plants at early crop stage and incorporate their biomass one month later. It reduces nematode build up.
- Remove the corms from the field after the harvest of bunches and keep the field free of crop residues.
Biological methods
- Application of organic amendment like neem cake (250g/tree), FYM (1kg/ tree) and press mud (15t/ha) during planting.
- Suckers were trimmed and sprinkled with Pseudomonas fluorescens @ 20g/sucker followed by soil application of Pseudomonas fluorescens @ 2.5 kg/ha along with 50Kg FYM.
- Application of P. fluorescens (Pf1) liquid formulation @ 2 litre /ha at second, fourth and six months after planting through drip irrigation.
Chemical methods
- Paring and pralinge: (Removal of lesioned portion + dipping in mud slurry (clay soil : water in the ratio of 1:5) + sprinkling of Carbofuran 3G @ 40g/ rhizome) or
- Dip the corm with for 15 minutes, shade dry and then plant.
- If pretreatment is not done, apply 40g of Carbofuran 3G around each plant one month after planting.
- Application of Carbofuran 3G @ 40g/ plant at 90 days after planting.
- For tissue culture banana, apply Carbofuran 3G @ 20g /sucker at the time of planting followed by 20g three months after planting.
