Pigeonpea cyst nematode: Heterodera cajani

Symptoms

  • Infested plants show yellowing, stunting, poor vigour and pod formation. Several crops like pigeonpea, cowpea, mungbean, soybean, blackgram and sesame are seriously damaged by the nematode.
  • At seedling stage of plant, pearl like or lemon shaped white female can be found attached with roots.

Management

  • Summer ploughing of fields during hot months.
  • Crop rotation with non host crops for 2-3 years.
  • Soil application of Pseudomonas fluorescens or Trichoderma viride @ 2.5 kg/ha at the time of sowing.
  • Seed treatment with Pseudomonas fluorescens and Trichoderma viride @ 5 + 5g/kg seed.
