Gall fly, Asphondylia sesami


Symptoms of damage:

  • Maggots feed on floral buds, leading to withering and dropping of buds.
    • Formation of gall like structure in buds and do not develop into capsules.
    • Pods completely distorted without seeds.

Identification of the pest:

  • Maggot:  white and legless.
  • Adult: Mosquito like fly

Management:

  • Intercrop with green gram, pearl millet and groundnut.
  • Clip the galls and burn the fallen buds.
  • Spray NSKE 5% or Neem oil 2%  at bud initiation stage.
