PEST MANAGEMENT IN FOREST NURSERIES
MINOR PESTS
CRICKETS
This large blackish brown cricket is nearly 50 mm long with long antennae. It lives in deep tunnel. The crickets lay egg at the bottom of the tunnel in September – October. The young crickets dig new tunnels. The adult cricket develops in a few months, generally May – July. The young seedlings and the pieces of foliage are dragged into its tunnel for feeding. Important species is Brachytrypes portentosus.
CONTROL MEASURES
Flooding the tunnels with water and then putting some kerosene on the tunnel causes coming out of the insects which can be killed mechanically.
