PEST MANAGEMENT IN FOREST NURSERIES
NON-INSECTS PESTS
NEMATODES
The introduction of monoculture of most of the plant species have to a great extent been responsible for creating an environment conductive to increase the nematode population. A large number of species of nematodes have been found associated with injury to plants in forests nurseries and have been classified as root knot nematodes, cyst nematodes and spiral nematodes (or) dagger nematodes. Nematodes generally live in soil feeding on plant root, although some species also also invade the plants above the ground.
CONTROL MEASURES
Soil treatment with nematicides is generally recommended. Soil fumigants such as chloropicrin, methylbromide, vapam, nemagon etc have been found very effective against nematodes.
