Nursery technology

  • Seed type: winged seeds
  • Seeds are viable upto one year
  • Nursery bed size: 1.2 x 1.2 x .03m (Length x width x height)
  • Seeds are mixed with sand and broadcasted over the mother bed
  • Finally cover the mother bed with thin layer of soil
  • Keep a layer of paddy straw for mulching

Planting

  • Light requirement: Light demander species
  • Pit size: 2.5 x 2.5 x 2.5m (Length, width and height)
  • Spacing: 1.8 x 1.8 m (for clonal plantation)
  • No of Plants: 625 plants per acre
  • After two years trees can attain 3.2 m
  • Silvicultural operations: Pruning, weeding and thinning

Rotation: Two to three years (For clonal varieties)
Yield: An average of 40 tons per acre in places where water is available
Income: At intervals of 2-3 years, Rs. 75,000 per acre can earn as revenue
Utility value: Casuarina can be used as pulpwood and pols
