Jack

PLR.1 (1992)

Palur.1 Jack is a clonal selection from Panikkankuppam local of Panruti taluk, South Arcot district. It is high yielding with medium height, less spreading and suitable for high density planting. In addition to regular bearing season (April-June), it gives yield during off season (Nov-Dec) also. The annual yield per tree is about 80 fruits weighing around 900kg. The average fruit weight is 12 kg containing 115-120 carpels. The off-season bearing is a unique trait of this variety and fetches premium price giving additional income to farmers. The fully ripe fruits have flat stigmatic surface instead of spiny surface.

 

PPI.1 (1996)

It is a clonal selection from Mulagumoodu local near Pechiparai. It is a medium tall tree yields 107 fruits per tree per annum (weighing 1818 kg) which accounts for 40.8% more yield than local. The tree bears twice annually (April-June and November-December) and produces high quality crisp carpels with more TSS and ascorbic acid content. The flakes are sweet and tasty with pleasant aroma. Maximum bearing seen in tree trunks. Suitable for commercial planting and home gardens.

 

PLR (J) 2 (2007)

It is a clonal selection from Pathirakkotai Local. This is having good quality and bigger sized fruits. It is having highly palatable and edible flakes fetches more price due to attractive characters and keeping quality resulting in increased income to the farmers. This is having less incidence of major pest and diseases. This can be planted during June – December. This is suitable for growing in tropical climates of deep well drained loam soils. This variety yields 95 – 110 fruits/tree/year weighing an average of 1600 – 1950 kgs. While the PLR 1 yields 29.00 fruits/tree/year weighing 114 kgs. This is suitable for growing in tropical climates of deep well drained loam soils.
