Crop Development Patanir yield, volume of sugar in patanir is based on the genetic traits. More number of fruit and patanir is must consider at time of palm selection. On the basis of the yield of Patanir palm can be classified as follows.
Classified based on the height of the palm as follows.
Classification based on the percentage of palm sugar derived from patanir as follows
Categories SVVR 1 variety released in the year of 1992 by Palm Research station, Srivilliputhur. Thus produce 298 liters of patanir within 95 days and gives 140-150 fruits per annum. In this category of palm reach 7.55 meters high and 1.42 m thick. Can get up to 144 grams of palm sugar per liter patanir. Dwarf Palmyra Dwarf palm variety is more preferable with more yielding patanir. Developing dwarf palm to reduce a hazard to workers at climbing. Dwarf palm diagnostic in the Horticultural College, carried out by the crew of professor V. Ponnusamy funded by the Government of India. several dwarf palms identified during fieldwork in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bangladesh, Pondicherry, Kerala. Field studies were carried out in every state in months of March-June-July. Widely 281 palm categories were identified through field test. In that 48 categories of palm were give high patanir as identified.
Fertilization occur through cross pollination in case of in palm, seed multiplication unit is not able to get mother palm saplings. In seed multiplication will be carried the 50 per cent of the male sex and 50 percent of the female sex seedlings. With this view, planned to establish the female dwarf palm through tissue culture. Companies involved in research In Eighth Plan period, Coconut, Oil palm, and Palmyra is included in All India coordinated research programme for maintained the gene bank.
In Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, for ten years (1995-2004) analysis in 8 palm species gives result as BF 34 (female palm) variety averagely gives 179.6 liters / season / palm of patanir to increasingly 287.85 liters / season / palm and BF 36 (male palm) gives 113.8 to 237.7 liters of patanir to be identified. Genetic studies carried out on fruit characteristics gives significant various differences were found.
