Sivappu Chitraikar

  • Grown in Paramakudi tracts
  • Skin is slightly black in colour and the inner skin is red in colour
  • Drought resistant and tall variety and 110 days crop
  • Sown in the month of “Aavani” and harvested in the month of “Thai”
    Yield is1500-1800 kg per acre in normal monsoon period and in the failure  of monsoon at least 600-900 kg per acre grains are harvested.
  • Farmers mainly rely on these traditional varieties rather than other varieties
  • “Rice kanji” of sivappu chitraikar is very tastier than other red rice varieties.
