            | Ther  Kothavari-Local cluster Bean Variety This traditional  cluster bean variety is popularly cultivated in coastal districts, especially  in Nagapattinam District. This variety exists beyond 75 years. June-July is the  apt season for cultivating this variety. Ridges and furrows method is followed  to sow the seeds, where 3 seeds are dibbled in one hill in the ridges. 30 days  after sowing final harvesting can be done. It is harvested manually by plucking  method. Time interval is set, once in 4 days harvesting can be done. On an  average, it yields about 50kg/week and fetch about Rs.5/kg of fresh bean.  Normally in the tracks, ‘Ther kothavarai’ is cultivated organically by using  farm yard manure, vermin compost and locally available backyard manures. Thus it  finds own market value. Apart from that, the taste of this variety is also good  which makes it highly preferable. It is capable of curing stomach ulcer and  mouth ulcer. It yields about 1800 kg/ac.
