Fertilizer management in Coconut

Thiru.S.Kadakaraisangam Vanniama city, Thiruchandur Block

Thiru. S.Kadakaraisangam belonging to Vanniamma city of Thiruchendur block is involved in Agriculture for 30 years. I am cultivating Coconut for 1 acre. First I obtained a low yield, hence I approached Agriculture Department of Thiruchendur to render their advice regarding this.         ATMA  scheme   Officer Thiru, S.Selva Prabhu, Subject Matter Specialist Thiru. K. Mariappan and Mr.N. Rahulmani advised and gave recommendation to increase the yield in coconut.        
      
To increase the yield in coconut optimum irrigation at the correct time is essential, remove the weeds in between the trees and the dried barks of the tree also should be removed. He also advised to apply green manures cow dung and fertilizers twice a year. The inputs viz., Urea, Potash, Super Phospahte, Azosprilllum,  Phosphobacteria and micro nutrients were provided through the ATMA scheme and the scheme officers were very supportive and encouraging.           
   
The Assistant Director of Agriculture and the ATMA scheme officers demonstrated the fertilizer management in coconut infront of the Joint Director of Agriculture. Three feet away from the roots half circle was formed to apply the fertilizers. Before following these technologies lot of nuts dried and fell down and the qualities of the coconut was not good too.  
By obtaining the inputs for cultivation, through ATMA scheme, and by following the demonstrated technologies I was able to obtain an increased yield in Coconut (the number of nuts and flowers increased).Besides, the falling of nuts has been reduced. I could obtain double the yield after following the recommended technologies. I humbly thank the ATMA scheme officers for providing the inputs and for demonstrating the technologies for coconut cultivation.
