Agro Climatic Zone Agro-climatic Zone - North Eastern Zone Location: The district is situated between 8 5’ and 13 2’ of north latitudes and 7615’ and 80 22’ east longitudes. Rainfall : Mean annual rainfall 1100 mm received in 53 rainy days. North east monsoon season provides The maximum amount of 566 mm rainfall in 22 days followed by southwest , contributing 407 mm in 21 rainy days. Soil types: Red loam and clay loam. Black soils are also present in limited extent and coastal alluvial soils occur along the sea coast. In coastal taluks saline and alkaline soils of about 12,000 Ha. are distributed in patches. Climate : Semi arid tropical Temperature: The average maximum temperature varies from 19.5 C to 24.8 C . Ground water is availability: The ground water is available at a depth of 12-15m from the ground surface in many locations(dry land areas). Therefore it is possible to get water if necessary for tree crops during summer-for the protective water supply. In the coastal areas, the water logged / swampy areas with saline water is seen and such areas can be properly used by suitable agro forestry programmes.
