India is one among the leading nation in Information and Technology in the recent past. Utilization of Information Communication Technology (ICT) tool for surfing the Agricultural Information by the resource poor farmers is a distant vision. Providing needful information in time is the need of the hour for making greater nuance in Agricultural Development and Empowerment of Farmer’s Prosperity.
When FAQs from the farmers are analyzed, the urgent demand is predominantly on plant protection (i.e observation of the symptom - identification of Casual organism - relevant prescription for control), |

secondarily for micronutrient deficiencies. At the harvest stage, the market information advisory is not available within a day, the farmer is likely to adopt the inappropriate technology. Bi - lingual Agri - Tech Portal (www.agritech.tnau.ac.in) contains exhaustive information on all crops including all aspects of cultivations and marketing besides weather data and the same was designed for the use of extension personal at block level. The same portal facility can be used by farmers when “Net enabled Touch Screen’s” are made available at common places where farmers used to assemble at late evening or early morning hours (Uzhavar Sandhai or weekly Shandies).

In this project the WUA Presidents, Members, Commodity Interest Groups can retrieve the information on Agriculture, technologies of allied departments, various Government scheme, weather forecast and market price towards effective decision making.
Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has taken giant lead in including the farmers from various tanks on easy usage of the Touch Screen. It keeps away routine application procedure and make easy to operate by simply touching the major sector displayed in the monitor.
Proper utilization of the Touch Screen by the farmer associations would bring timely decision making. It also provides sharing of knowledge and latest information hub for the resource poor farmers’ brining prosperity and livelihood security of the rural sector. |
